Anyone here thinking of running a D&D 5th Edition Campaign in Blackmoor? If so, how do you see the various classes and class paths fitting into this setting?

I would run it in a heartbeat. The flavor of much of the 5th Edition lines up very well with the Thorn's World That Was mythology.

Magic being wild and abundant, even the lowliest of fighters and thieves are able to work a touch or two of magic.

Warlocks with the alien-being pact are just screaming to be used as servants of the Egg or the entity of Id.

And the new Unearthed Arcana article series gives us artificers to play with, as well... :?:

Just sticking with the free Basic PDF could work, but I also like the standard classes in the PHB. I tend to see Blackmoor as the gonzo of the already gonzo OD&D, so no holds barred.

I'd love to see 5E Blackmoor "done right." I probably wouldn't be able to do much with it right away since I'm running the DRAGON HOARD mega-adventure at the local game store, but I'd be interested in reading a 5E Blackmoor doc if someone threw it together.

In many ways I prefer starting with the "core four" from the basic PDF, mostly because I think some of the other classes are sort of broken in places, but I also agree that Blackmoor can certainly handle pretty much any of the classes in the 5E Player's Handbook.

As we've discussed elsewhere, Blackmoor is an attitude more than a specific rules set. 8)

Okay, I guess I was reading too much into your statement :)

I totally agree with you when it comes to avoiding having the edition to force new elements into the setting. In some ways 5E seems to be easier to customise to the setting than having it be the other way around which may have been the case with some previous editions. Or perhaps that had less to do with the editions even and more to do with the mindset of those doing the conversions.

Anyway, it seems like we are on the same page here :)

Don't get me wrong -- I have a preference for older versions of Blackmoor, but that is mostly tied to OD&D rules at the same time. Once you shift to a different rules set my tie to the older era of the campaign becomes less strong.

For example, running a "First Fantasy Campaign" based game with 4E rules would have been strange to me. FFC is very much a back-to-the-basics book and OD&D is a back-to-the-basics rules set so they fit well, but 4E has a totally different feel to it and one that doesn't feel very FFC-like to me.
